Agri-Business Analyst
AGRIBUSINESS ANALYST – MULTIPLE POSITIONS

Avencion is a global technology, business process outsourcing and management consulting firm with offices in Africa and North America. We are seeking dynamic, analytical, and commercially minded young professionals to join our Agribusiness Analyst Program. The positions will be based in Copperbelt and North-Western Provinces.
The program will run for a period of 10–24 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and program requirements.
Agribusiness Analyst Program Summary
The Agribusiness Analyst Program will upskill and deploy talented young professionals to support agribusinesses, agri-SMEs, farmers, cooperatives, processors, and other actors across agricultural value chains.
Agribusiness Analysts will conduct enterprise diagnostics, baseline assessments, market and value-chain analysis, financial assessments, and develop tailored support plans for businesses participating in incubation and acceleration programs.
The role will focus on helping agribusinesses identify commercially viable opportunities, improve operational and financial performance, strengthen market access, adopt sustainable and climate-smart practices, and become more investment-ready.
Agribusiness Analysts will work closely with mentors, consultants, financial institutions, government stakeholders, agribusinesses, farmers, cooperatives, and other ecosystem actors to ensure high-quality business development support is delivered.
The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, an interest in agriculture and enterprise development, strong communication skills, and the ability to quickly understand agricultural value chains and translate insights into practical business solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Agribusiness Diagnostics & Enterprise Support
Conduct comprehensive diagnostics and needs assessments for agribusinesses, SMEs, cooperatives, startups, farmers and agricultural enterprises.
Assess business maturity, growth potential, operational efficiency, profitability, and market readiness.
Identify key business challenges and develop practical, tailored business improvement plans.
Support businesses to develop and implement growth strategies and action plans.
2. Agricultural Value Chain & Market Analysis
Conduct market research and value-chain assessments across relevant agricultural sectors.
Identify market opportunities, customer segments, competitors, suppliers, buyers, and potential business linkages.
Analyse agricultural value chains to identify opportunities for value addition, agro-processing, aggregation, distribution and market access.
Support enterprises in identifying commercially viable products and services.
Facilitate business-to-business linkages between SMEs, farmers, buyers, processors, suppliers and other market actors.
3. Financial & Investment Readiness
Conduct financial health and investment-readiness assessments for agribusinesses.
Support enterprises to develop budgets, cash-flow projections, financial models and financial forecasts.
Assist businesses in understanding their costs, pricing, margins, profitability and working-capital requirements.
Support SMEs to prepare investment proposals, pitch decks and other financing documents.
Assist with due diligence and preparation of documentation required by potential financiers and investors.
4. Agribusiness Innovation & Growth
Support enterprises in validating business ideas, products and agricultural innovations.
Identify opportunities for product development, value addition and agro-processing.
Support businesses to develop prototypes, test products and validate market demand.
Identify opportunities for digitalization and technology adoption within agricultural enterprises.
Support businesses to develop sustainable and scalable business models.
5. Climate-Smart & Sustainable Agribusiness
Assess opportunities for enterprises to adopt environmentally sustainable and climate-smart business practices.
Identify opportunities for waste reduction, resource efficiency, circular economy practices and value recovery within agricultural value chains.
Support enterprises to integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into their business operations.
Identify opportunities for sustainable production, processing, packaging and distribution.
6. Capacity Building & Enterprise Development
Support the delivery of agribusiness bootcamps, workshops, peer-learning sessions and business development training.
Facilitate sessions on business planning, financial management, marketing, market access, investment readiness and growth strategies.
Provide ongoing technical support and coaching to participating enterprises.
Support women- and youth-led agribusinesses to strengthen their business capabilities and growth potential.
7. Monitoring, Data & Reporting
Maintain accurate digital records and performance data for supported enterprises.
Track enterprise progress against agreed KPIs and milestones.
Conduct follow-up assessments to measure business growth and outcomes.
Prepare enterprise progress reports, case studies, success stories and lessons learned.
Support program monitoring, evaluation and learning activities.
8. Stakeholder Engagement
Engage provincial and district stakeholders within the agricultural and enterprise development ecosystem.
Build relationships with government agencies, agribusinesses, financial institutions, cooperatives, farmer organisations, buyers, suppliers and development partners.
Represent Avencion in relevant stakeholder meetings, workshops and ecosystem activities.
Support the identification of partnerships and opportunities that can benefit participating enterprises.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Agriculture, Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Agricultural Engineering, Food Science, Environmental Science, Development Studies or a related field.
- A Master's degree, professional qualification or relevant certification is an added advantage but not mandatory.
- Candidates with strong business analysis or enterprise development experience and a demonstrable understanding of agriculture may also be considered.
- Knowledge of agricultural value chains, agribusiness development, agro-processing, farming systems, agricultural markets or SME development is highly desirable.
- Experience in business analysis, consulting, enterprise development, agriculture or SME support is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to analyse financial information, business performance and market data.
- Proficiency in digital tools including Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Sheets, CRM systems and M&E dashboards.
- Strong communication, facilitation, presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to translate complex business or agricultural challenges into practical solutions.
- Strong character, integrity, curiosity, initiative, energy and work ethic.
- Ability to work independently as well as effectively within a team.
- Commitment to supporting women-, youth- and community-led enterprises.
- Willingness to travel extensively within Copperbelt and North-Western Provinces to visit enterprises, farms, cooperatives and other stakeholders.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Proficiency in Bemba, Kaonde, Lunda, Luvale or other local languages spoken in Copperbelt and North-Western Province is an added advantage.

Senior Finance Officer
SENIOR FINANCE OFFICER

ABOUT THE ROLE
Avencion is seeking a Senior Finance Officer to join and support its existing finance and operations team. The successful candidate will contribute to the effective day-to-day management of the organization's financial operations and provide financial support across Avencion's projects and programs, including donor-funded initiatives.
Working within the organization's existing systems and structures, the Senior Finance Officer will support sound financial management, accurate reporting, effective budgeting, donor compliance, and strong financial controls.
The role requires a detail-oriented and collaborative finance professional who can work closely with the existing team and program/project staff to ensure that financial processes are well maintained, resources are properly accounted for, and financial information is available to support informed decision-making.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Management & Reporting
- Support the existing finance team in managing day-to-day accounting and financial operations.
- Prepare accurate monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Conduct bank, supplier, customer, project, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Monitor accounts payable, receivables, cash flow, and expenditure.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
- Assist management and the finance team with financial analysis and reporting.
Donor & Grant Financial Management
- Support the financial management of donor-funded projects and grants in line with approved budgets, donor agreements, and organizational procedures.
- Track project expenditure, commitments, donor funds, and balances.
- Support the preparation of donor financial and grant expenditure reports.
- Monitor expenditure against approved project budgets and support investigation of variances.
- Ensure project costs are properly supported, appropriately allocated, and compliant with donor requirements.
- Support preparation of donor budgets, budget revisions, cash-flow projections, and financial forecasts.
- Monitor grant burn rates and work with program teams to support effective budget utilization.
- Support appropriate allocation of shared and indirect costs across projects.
- Assist with donor audits, financial reviews, and responses to audit queries.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records and supporting documentation.
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Support compliance with Zambian statutory requirements, organizational financial policies, donor regulations, and grant agreements.
- Support internal and external audits and follow-up on audit findings.
- Assist in maintaining and strengthening existing financial controls.
- Ensure expenditure is appropriately authorized and adequately documented.
- Support timely preparation and submission of statutory returns, including ZRA, NAPSA, NHIMA, and other applicable obligations.
Payroll & Team Support
- Support accurate and timely payroll processing and statutory deductions.
- Provide financial guidance and support to program, project, and administrative teams.
- Work collaboratively with existing finance and operations staff.
- Provide support and mentorship to junior finance staff where applicable.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, ZICA, or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in NGO, development, donor-funded, or project-based environments.
- Demonstrable experience in donor/grant financial management and reporting.
- Strong understanding of donor compliance requirements and grant financial controls.
- Good knowledge of Zambian tax and statutory requirements.
- Experience using accounting and financial management systems.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and project accounting.
- Strong analytical, Organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy, integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with program and management teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
